Depth And Dirt

Let's go deep

I beg

Searching

For a glimpse

Of understanding

Of warmth

In your blank stare

And icy silence.

Let's go deep

Let's not

Stop here

Superficiality

A great wall

Impossible to cross

To tear down

Insurmountable vastness

Between my heart and yours

My hand stretched out

Longing to connect

On a level deeper than

How are you and

a quick smile

Fading

Faintly

Remembering

This being human

Is there anything

Anyone behind this

Human mask

Is there anything

Worth speaking

Worth thinking

Beyond mere technicalities

Or niceness?

Maybe going deep

Is not nice

No longer polite

Pushing and

Moving over boulders

Of shame and fear

And chaos and love

And wading through

Swamps of

Ancient emotions

Stirring up emotions

Circling

Like flies around

Precious dirt

Messy, gross, uncomfortable

To look at

All this dirt around us

Within us

We breathe it

We consume it

Or does it consume us?

Can we no longer go

Deep when the piles

Reach so high

Nearly suffocating

Or drowning us?

When the forever present

Flies remind us of the

Forever present past

And all the growing

Piles of dirt

We have yet to clean
